This extraordinary shrine, known as “Rafi-Darshan,” is housed within the private residence of devoted fan and businessman, Umesh Makhija, located in Indraprastha Towers on Drive-In Road.
More than just a collection, “Rafi-Darshan” is a meticulously curated space where Rafi Saab’s memory is revered with spiritual fervor. The dedicated room is adorned with countless photographs of the singer, some of his personal belongings, and even earth brought reverently from his mausoleum in Mumbai. The devotion of Umesh Makhija and his family is evident in their daily rituals, where a ‘diya’ (lamp) is lit and offerings are made, symbolizing their profound respect for the musical maestro.
“It’s not just a room; it’s a place where we feel Rafi Saab’s presence,” shared Umesh Makhija, whose passion for the singer led him to dedicate this part of his home. “Every aspect, from the bedsheets with his song lyrics to the watch showing the exact time of his passing, is a testament to our boundless love.”
The “Rafi-Darshan” has garnered significant attention, with World Records India recognizing it in July 2020 as the “FIRST EVER TEMPLE OF BOLLYWOOD SINGER MOHD. RAFI SAAB IN THE COUNTRY,” acknowledging Makhija’s unparalleled devotion by World Records India. It has also served as a unique venue for various Rafi-themed events, including a non-stop solo karaoke singing program that set a world record in 2020.
While a private sanctuary, the “temple” opens its doors to fellow Rafi enthusiasts every Sunday from 2 PM to 4 PM, allowing them to experience the serene atmosphere and connect with the singer’s timeless legacy.
