In a remarkable feat of engineering and teamwork, students from SAL Institute of Technology & Engineering Research have constructed the world’s largest robo race track, known as “Route 67.” Measuring a record-breaking 2.6 kilometers (2600 meters) in length and 0.61 meters (2.6 feet) in width, this innovative track was completed just in time for SALCON – 2012, the institute’s annual technical festival.
A team of 42 students dedicated nine days of intense labor to bring this ambitious project to life. The construction required 25,000 bricks and 120 bags of cement (50 kg each) to lay the foundation and ensure structural integrity. The track is modeled after an F-1 racing circuit, aiming to provide robotics enthusiasts with a challenging and competitive course.
The inauguration of “Route 67” was held on February 6–7, 2012, at the SAL Institute campus, located opposite Science City in Bhadaj, Ahmedabad. The event drew attention from students, faculty, and visitors alike, highlighting the students’ commitment to innovation and collaborative spirit.
SALCON – 2012 served as the perfect backdrop for this accomplishment, showcasing the ingenuity and dedication of future engineers in creating a landmark achievement in the field of robotics racing.
