A group of innovative and energetic students from the Niagara region have taken a tangy challenge to new heights by attempting to break a Guinness World Record—using lemons.
In a zesty event that combined science, sustainability, and school spirit, the students aimed to create the largest number of lemon-powered batteries ever assembled. With rows of lemons wired in series to generate electricity, the young participants lit up not only LED bulbs but also the faces of onlookers impressed by the citrus-powered ingenuity.
Organized as part of a STEM initiative to inspire hands-on learning and promote renewable energy awareness, the event saw participation from multiple schools across Niagara. Teachers and students alike celebrated the combination of education and excitement, while official Guinness World Records representatives observed the proceedings.
“This isn’t just about breaking a record,” said one science teacher. “It’s about sparking curiosity, teamwork, and sustainable thinking among students.”
Whether or not the attempt is officially certified by Guinness, one thing is clear: these Niagara students have certainly squeezed the most out of their lemons—and their imaginations.
