Adhish Krupeshbhai Shah, born on 29th June 2008, and a student of Hemchandracharya Sanskrit Pathshala, Sabarmati, Ahmedabad, has etched his name in history as India’s youngest and fastest Jal Tarang player.
In a remarkable feat of musical agility and precision, Adhish performed 600 notes on the traditional Jal Tarang instrument using multiple bounces on metal bowls with sticks. This extraordinary performance, which showcased immense control, rhythm, and musicality, was accomplished during the Lok Kala Foundation Award Ceremony held at Tagore Hall, Ahmedabad, on 16th October 2023.
The event marked the setting of a New World Record, earning national and global recognition for the young musical talent. Jal Tarang, a rare melodic percussion instrument originating from the Indian subcontinent, involves water-filled ceramic or metal bowls that produce musical notes when struck — a form requiring immense skill and practice.
Adhish’s achievement not only revives interest in this ancient classical instrument but also reflects the promising future of India’s rich musical heritage in the hands of young talents.
