In a remarkable blend of patriotism, tradition, and adventure, Smita Durgadas Ghuge (32), a proud native of Pune, Maharashtra, has set a new record by displaying a 75-foot-long Indian Flag at the Mount Elbrus Base Camp in Russia, while dressed in the iconic Nauvari Saree, symbolizing the rich Marathi heritage. This historic feat was accomplished on 15th August 2023, marking India’s 76th Independence Day in a truly unforgettable way.
Guided by mountaineer Anand Bansode and his team from 360 Explorers, and supported by the Vishwangan Foundation, Smita’s expedition was more than a physical challenge — it was a celebration of India’s cultural identity on a global platform. Her act of courage and pride involved scaling the base camp of Mount Elbrus, Europe’s highest peak, and unfurling the massive Tricolor amid snow-clad peaks and freezing temperatures.
Adding a spiritual touch to her journey, Smita carried photo frames of revered deities and saints — God Datta Maharaj, Shri Swami Samarth, Sadguru Shankar Baba Maharaj, and Sadguru Narayan Anna Maharaj Borkar — seeking their blessings as she represented not just her nation but her deep faith.
