First-Ever Voluntary Confinement to Promote Ban on Single-Use Plastic

From January 23 to January 26, 2020, Rajkot Municipal Corporation in collaboration with 94.3 MY FM successfully attempted a unique world record titled “First-Ever Voluntary Confinement to Promote the Ban on Single-Use Plastic.” In a creative campaign to support Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a Clean India, popular RJ Abha voluntarily locked herself inside a confinement for 72 hours. She pledged to be freed only if citizens “bailed” her out by voluntarily surrendering single-use plastic items.

The campaign, held in Rajkot city, aimed to raise awareness about the harmful effects of single-use plastics and encourage citizens to pledge against their usage. Over the three-day period, more than 500 kilograms of single-use plastic were collected from residents as bail for RJ Abha. Additionally, more than 71,000 paper bags were distributed to promote eco-friendly alternatives.

The initiative garnered widespread appreciation from local authorities, political leaders, educational institutions, and the general public of Rajkot. This successful record attempt was jointly organized and executed by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation and 94.3 MY FM, marking a significant step towards environmental sustainability and community participation in reducing plastic pollution.
