Kanpur, 27 June 1967 (Retrospective): Marking a major milestone in Indian aviation manufacturing, the first HS-748 aircraft assembled in India was officially delivered to Indian Airlines on 27 June 1967.
The aircraft was built at the Aircraft Manufacturing Depot in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, under license from the British aviation company Avro. This turboprop-powered airliner, known for its reliability and short take-off and landing capabilities, was ideally suited for India’s diverse terrain and regional air connectivity needs.
The successful assembly of the HS-748 in India not only enhanced the capabilities of Indian Airlines but also signaled a significant advancement in India’s indigenous aircraft production, laying the foundation for future self-reliant aviation projects.
