“HAL Establishes Training School for Helicopter Pilot Licenses in Bengaluru”

On 1 May 2000, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), headquartered in Bangalore (now Bengaluru), Karnataka, established a dedicated helicopter training school aimed at producing skilled aviators in the country.

The training institute was set up to enable aspiring pilots to acquire both Commercial Helicopter Pilot Licences (CHPL) and Private Helicopter Pilot Licences (PHPL). With India witnessing a growing demand for rotary-wing aviation across defense, rescue, medical, and corporate sectors, HAL’s initiative came at a pivotal time.

Equipped with state-of-the-art simulators, aircraft maintenance infrastructure, and experienced instructors, the school provides hands-on training in helicopter operations, safety procedures, and aviation regulations. It complements HAL’s larger mission of supporting India’s aerospace and defense capabilities.

Over the years, this training school has emerged as a center of excellence for helicopter aviation in India, contributing significantly to the civil aviation ecosystem and bolstering self-reliance in aviation training.
