Sukumar Sen, India’s first Chief Election Commissioner, is set to be the subject of an upcoming biopic. Production companies Roy Kapur Films and Trickitainment Media have acquired the rights to depict his life and contributions to India’s electoral system.
A mathematician-turned-civil servant, Sukumar Sen played a pivotal role in organizing India’s first general elections in 1952. His innovative measures, such as introducing indelible ink to prevent voter impersonation and assigning unique symbols to political parties to aid illiterate voters, have left a lasting impact on the nation’s democratic processes.
The biopic aims to shed light on Sen’s visionary leadership and the challenges he overcame to establish a robust electoral framework in post-independence India. Producer Siddharth Roy Kapur expressed enthusiasm about bringing Sen’s story to the screen, emphasizing his status as “one of our national heroes.”
