Best Finish in the European Tour Order of Merit

Jeev Milkha Singh’s 12th place finish on the 2008 European Tour Order of Merit was a remarkable achievement and a testament to his consistency and skill during that season. It marked one of the highest finishes by an Indian golfer on the prestigious European Tour’s money list. Finishing 12th on the European Tour Order of Merit was one of Singh’s career-best performances. He earned approximately €1.44 million in prize money during the season, which contributed significantly to his ranking.

Singh won the Bank Austria GolfOpen in June 2008, defeating the field with a superb display of consistency and composure. This victory was crucial in boosting his position on the Order of Merit. Later in the year, he captured the Barclays Singapore Open on the Asian Tour, a co-sanctioned event with the European Tour, further cementing his global reputation. At the 2008 PGA Championship, Singh achieved a Tied-9th finish, the best result by an Indian golfer in a major championship at that time. This solidified his standing as a world-class player.

Singh’s performance wasn’t limited to the European Tour; he also excelled on the Asian Tour, where he regularly competed and won events, and the Japan Golf Tour. His achievements in 2008 earned him widespread accolades and reinforced his status as the flagbearer of Indian golf on the international stage.

Singh’s success in 2008 further highlighted his ability to compete against the best golfers in the world. His performances inspired a new generation of Indian golfers to aim for excellence in international events.

His accomplishments that year contributed to him being awarded the Padma Shri in 2007, a year before his stellar season.
