Shiv Nadar School Sets Guinness World Record with 2,232 Handprints for Water Conservation

In a landmark event blending environmental advocacy with a record-setting achievement, 2,232 students and educators from Shiv Nadar School etched their names in history by setting the Guinness World Record for the Most Contributions to a Handprint Painting in One Hour. The attempt, held at the school’s Faridabad campus, sent a powerful message about water conservation under the campaign #EveryDropCounts.

The vibrant sea of green and blue handprints symbolised the collective commitment of participants toward UN Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation for All. Each participant also took the Every Drop Counts pledge, underscoring the school’s philosophy of responsibility and environmental stewardship.

The event was flagged off by actress, activist, and sustainability champion Gul Panag, who lauded the initiative:

“By planting the seed of environmental consciousness early on, we empower every child to become a changemaker. Shiv Nadar School is setting a phenomenal benchmark.”

CEO Col. (Retd.) Gopal Karunakaran emphasised the urgency of raising eco-aware generations:

“Half the world’s population will soon live in water-stressed areas. Our pledge today is more than a commitment — it’s an awakening to our shared responsibility as stewards of the Earth.”

Arti Dawar, Deputy CEO, echoed the sentiment, calling the record “a powerful call to action towards using water responsibly and saving lives.”

The record attempt was overseen by Guinness World Records adjudicator Rishi Nath and followed strict verification protocols. Eco-friendly, child-safe paints in blues and greens — evoking the ocean, water, and sky — were chosen to align with the theme.

Shiv Nadar School’s ongoing sustainability efforts include rainwater harvesting, dual flushing systems, advanced water purification, and regular water quality checks. Through workshops and creative projects, students are taught to adopt mindful water practices both at school and at home.

Concluding the event, Vandana Marda, Director of Brand and Communication, praised the united spirit:

“This feat shows what we can achieve when we come together, driven by purpose and passion.”

The Guinness World Record now stands not only as a celebration of teamwork but also as a visual reminder that every drop truly counts.
