International coach Charan Singh Manav, a resident of Kasba in Baghpat, achieved a historic feat by forming a team of visually impaired players. For this achievement, his name has been registered in the Limca Book of Records.
Coach Charan Singh Manav established the Kabaddi Federation under the name Federation of India in 1950 to promote the sport of Kabaddi. After that, he formed a team of girls for the national level. In 1961, the sport was included in universities. The National Kabaddi Championship was held in Allahabad in 1963, and in 1974, a championship was organized in Kolkata.
Charan Singh Manav explains that in 1990, Kabaddi was included in the Asian Games. The sport became popular not only in India but also in Sri Lanka, Japan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, China, South Korea, Iran, and Thailand. Charan Singh Manav formed a Kabaddi team of visually impaired youth, who were consistently trained. Later, they were allowed to participate in competitions. His achievement of forming the blind Kabaddi team earned him a place in the Limca Book of Records.
When the people of the town learned about this, a wave of happiness spread. Chaudhary Himmat Singh, Alok, Naresh Sanjay, Pintu, Tahir, Sumit, Sonu, Akash, and Badal mentioned that the Kabaddi coach had already made the town proud, and now he has become renowned across the country. The coach had also formed the Manav Sports Club in 2012, which has increased the interest of the youth in Kabaddi.
