18-Year-Old Indian Trailblazer Skis to South Pole

Eighteen-year-old Kaamya Karthikeyan, daughter of an Indian Navy officer, has etched her name in history by becoming the youngest Indian and the second-youngest woman in the world to ski to the South Pole. Battling extreme Antarctic conditions — including temperatures dropping to -30°C, fierce winds, and a grueling 115 kilometer journey while pulling her own expedition gear — Kaamya reached the South Pole on 27 December 2025, demonstrating extraordinary courage and endurance.

A former student of Navy Children School, Kaamya received warm congratulations from the Indian Navy for her remarkable achievement, which reflects not only physical strength but also unyielding determination.

This monumental accomplishment adds to an already stellar record: Kaamya has previously completed the Seven Summits Challenge, scaling the highest peaks on all seven continents — including Mount Everest — making her one of the youngest globally to do so.

Kaamya’s next goal is the legendary Explorers Grand Slam, which entails climbing the highest peak on each continent and skiing to both the North and South Poles. If she succeeds, she could become the youngest person in the world to complete this formidable adventure challenge. Her journey from the mountains to the icy expanse of Antarctica is a testament to fearless ambition, resilience, and the power of youthful aspiration — inspiring a generation to push boundaries and redefine what’s possible.
