Saudi Hospital Sets World Record for Paired Kidney Transplants

A leading medical center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia has achieved a major medical milestone after setting a world record for the largest number of paired kidney transplants performed in a coordinated program.

The record was set by King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre, which successfully carried out a complex series of kidney transplant procedures involving multiple donor–recipient pairs.

Paired kidney transplantation is a procedure in which patients who have incompatible donors are matched with other donor–recipient pairs so that each patient receives a compatible kidney. This approach significantly increases the chances of successful transplantation for people suffering from severe kidney disease.

Hospital officials said the large-scale transplant chain required careful coordination among surgeons, transplant specialists, and medical teams working simultaneously in different operating rooms.

The achievement was recognized by Guinness World Records, highlighting the hospital’s advanced capabilities in transplant medicine and patient care.

Medical experts say the record-breaking program demonstrates how innovative transplant strategies can save more lives and reduce waiting times for patients needing kidney transplants.
