St. Thomas’s Church in Palayur, Thrissur District, Kerala, is traditionally believed to have been established by St. Thomas the Apostle in 52 CE, making it one of the oldest churches in India. The church’s architecture reflects a blend of traditional Kerala Hindu temple styles and Persian influences.

The original altar, consecrated by St. Thomas, remains intact and is a significant feature of the church.

In the 17th century, the church underwent substantial renovations, including the construction of a new structure around the original site. Despite these changes, the main sanctity of the place has been preserved.

The church is renowned for its annual Lenten Mahatheerthadanam, a 30 km long pilgrimage that attracts numerous devotees.
