“Smt. Jumde Yomgam Gamlin Awarded Padma Shri 2025 for Social Work in Arunachal”

In a proud moment for the Northeast, Smt. Jumde Yomgam Gamlin, a devoted social worker from Arunachal Pradesh, has been conferred the Padma Shri 2025 for her outstanding contributions in the field of social work, particularly in the areas of drug de-addiction, women empowerment, and community development.

For over three decades, Smt. Gamlin has worked relentlessly to combat substance abuse and uplift vulnerable communities in the remote tribal areas of Arunachal Pradesh. In 2013, she founded Mother’s Vision, an NGO dedicated to rehabilitating youth addicted to drugs and alcohol through spiritual healing, counseling, and social reintegration.

Her 30-bed de-addiction and rehab centre in Aalo has helped rehabilitate over 700 individuals, and she has been instrumental in eradicating illegal opium and ganja cultivation in areas like Geku and Katan.

Through vocational training, financial literacy programs, and community support networks, she has empowered more than 2,000 women, helping them gain independence and leadership roles within their families and societies. Her efforts have significantly contributed to poverty reduction, education access, and health awareness in tribal regions.

Smt. Gamlin received the Padma Shri from President Droupadi Murmu at a ceremony held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. She was previously awarded the Bharat Vibhushan Puraskar 2024 for her contributions to grassroots healthcare and social reform.

“I am overwhelmed and grateful. This award belongs to every mother, every family, and every youth who chose healing over harm,” she said after receiving the honour.

Currently serving as a Zila Parishad member from the Yomcha constituency, she continues to bridge governance with grassroots action. Chief Minister Pema Khandu praised her as a “symbol of Arunachal’s resilience and compassion,” calling her a true agent of change.

  • Community Healing Model: Integrates traditional spirituality with modern rehabilitation approaches.
  • Sustainable Impact: Transformed hundreds of lives and communities through persistent, people-first work.
  • Inspiration for the Northeast: Her recognition brings attention to rural challenges and the power of local solutions.

Smt. Jumde Yomgam Gamlin’s Padma Shri is not just a personal milestone—it is a tribute to every unsung social worker transforming lives at the grassroots. Her journey exemplifies hope, healing, and humanity in action.
