FightMND Sets World Record with Massive Ice Bucket Challenge Event

Hundreds of students in Melbourne, Australia came together to break a world record during a large-scale Ice Bucket Challenge organized by FightMND to raise awareness about motor neurone disease (MND).

A total of 979 students from 12 schools gathered at Xavier College in Kew to participate in the record attempt. At the signal, participants simultaneously poured buckets of icy water over their heads, creating a dramatic splash as thousands of litres of water were dumped at once.

The event set a new record for the largest simultaneous Ice Bucket Challenge, with officials from the Australian Book of Records confirming the achievement and presenting a certificate to organizers.

The challenge aimed to raise awareness for Motor Neurone Disease, a progressive neurological condition that affects thousands of people and their families. Organizers said the initiative also honored individuals affected by the disease and encouraged young people to support ongoing research and community efforts.

The Ice Bucket Challenge first became a global social media phenomenon in 2014, when millions of people—including celebrities and athletes—dumped ice water over their heads to raise funds and awareness for ALS/MND research. The campaign ultimately raised hundreds of millions of dollars worldwide for the cause.
