Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has equaled a 26-year-old record held by West Indies legend Brian Lara by losing 12 consecutive One Day International (ODI) tosses. This streak began in November 2023 and continued through the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand in Dubai.
This sequence of toss losses matches Lara’s record from October 1998 to May 1999. Additionally, the Indian team has experienced 15 consecutive toss losses in ODIs, including three under KL Rahul’s captaincy during a series in South Africa.
Despite this unusual streak, the Indian team has demonstrated resilience and strong performance, reaching the Champions Trophy final. In that match, New Zealand’s captain Mitchell Santner chose to bat first after winning the toss.
While the toss can influence match dynamics, Rohit Sharma and his team have shown the ability to adapt and compete effectively, underscoring their skill and determination in international cricket.
