Celebrated Nigerian chef and former Guinness World Record holder, Hilda Baci, is setting her sights on another ambitious culinary milestone: cooking the world’s largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice.
In a recent video shared on her Instagram page, Baci unveiled the colossal pot specially designed for the attempt, which is set to take place on September 12 at Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island, Lagos. The massive pot measures six meters in both width and height and has a volume of 22,619 liters.
To achieve the feat, Baci revealed she plans to use 250 bags of rice, which she estimates will require 1,583 kilograms of tomato paste, along with a host of other spices and ingredients to create what she hopes will be the “most delicious, largest pot of Nigerian jollof rice you have ever tasted.”
Baci, who previously held the record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual with a time of 93 hours and 11 minutes in 2023, stated that the project has been two years in the making. She describes the event as more than just a culinary challenge; it is a cultural festival celebrating Nigerian food, music, and community spirit.
The attempt, which is expected to attract a massive crowd of food lovers and cultural enthusiasts, also aims to feed an estimated 10,000 people. The cooked jollof rice will be distributed to communities, ensuring the initiative has a humanitarian impact while promoting Nigerian cuisine globally.
