In an extraordinary display of courage, endurance, and human spirit, a team of Dubai Civil Defence firefighters has officially entered the Guinness World Records after completing one of the most daring high-altitude challenges on Earth — a technical rescue simulation atop Mount Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa.
Standing an awe-inspiring 4,167 meters above sea level in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, Mount Toubkal is known for its unforgiving terrain, frigid winds, and oxygen-thin atmosphere. Yet, the elite rescue unit chose this very location to test the limits of professional firefighting, mountaineering, and emergency response. Their mission: to conduct the world’s highest-altitude rope rescue training operation, a feat never before attempted or documented at this scale.
Led by a specially trained high-risk intervention squad, the team hauled more than 80 kg of equipment through snow-covered slopes, rocky ridges, and steep ascents. Their operation included the installation of anchor systems, controlled descents, stretcher hoisting, and simulated casualty evacuation — all carried out while battling sub-zero temperatures and rapidly shifting mountain conditions.
Guinness World Records adjudicators confirmed the achievement after reviewing detailed evidence, route logs, safety protocols, and the precision involved in the rescue drill. According to officials, the Dubai Civil Defence firefighters showcased “an exceptional level of professionalism and physical capacity,” proving their readiness for extreme emergencies anywhere in the world.
Brigadier Ali Hassan Al Mutawa, one of the senior officials overseeing the mission, praised the team’s spirit: “This achievement is more than a record; it reflects the resilience, dedication, and global-standard preparedness of our firefighters. They have shown that bravery has no altitude limit.”
Experts in mountaineering and emergency response have applauded the initiative, noting that high-altitude rescue skills are crucial in a world where adventure tourism, climate unpredictability, and complex terrains often lead to life-threatening incidents.
Local communities in Morocco also expressed admiration, as the firefighters engaged with guides, rescue volunteers, and environmental groups during their descent. Many described the event as a “historic collaboration” that blended technical expertise with mountain culture.
This groundbreaking accomplishment positions Dubai Civil Defence among the world’s most advanced and versatile emergency services, capable of responding not only to urban crises but also to extreme natural environments.
