Cotnari Winery Becomes World’s Most Awarded Winery

The historic Romanian wine region of Cotnari has been vaulted onto the global stage, as the Cotnari Winery (Cotnari SA) has officially been recognized as the Most Awarded Winery in the world by the World Record Academy.

The prestigious title reflects the winery’s consistent excellence on the international circuit, confirming its status as a powerhouse in global winemaking.

The record is a testament to the sheer volume and quality of honors accumulated by Cotnari’s diverse portfolio of wines in recent years.

Record-Breaking Tally: Cotnari Winery secured the world record based on its haul of 588 medals won at international wine competitions alone.

Gold Standard: This impressive total includes no less than 322 Gold medals and 266 Silver medals, showcasing the high-level quality achieved across its vintages.

Star Performer: The achievement is significantly bolstered by its flagship wine, ‘Grasa de Cotnari’, a renowned sweet wine, which has individually set a record as the Most Awarded Wine, claiming 144 Gold and 61 Silver medals in its own right.

The Cotnari vineyard boasts a winemaking tradition that stretches back over 2,500 years. The winery specializes in native Romanian varieties, including Grasă de Cotnari, Tămâioasă Românească, Fetească Albă, and Frâncușă.

The consistent success is attributed to the unique terroir of the Moldavian Plateau and the winery’s dedication to honoring age-old traditions while integrating modern technology to achieve unparalleled quality. This world record solidifies the Cotnari brand and the entire Romanian wine industry’s place among the elite wine-producing regions of the world.
