A giant tribute to the rapidly growing sport of pickleball has earned its place in the record books! The world’s largest pickleball paddle was officially certified by Guinness World Records after being unveiled at Smash Park in West Des Moines.
Nicknamed “Big Blue,” the remarkable paddle measures an astounding 4.10 metres (13 ft 5.5 in) in length and 2.05 metres (6 ft 8.9 in) in width dwarfing standard pickleball paddles and capturing the imagination of sports fans and record enthusiasts alike.
Created through a partnership between Smash Park and paddle manufacturer Paddletek, this extraordinary oversized paddle was constructed using enough material to produce approximately 180 regular paddles. The project was completed and officially recognised by Guinness World Records on 28 August 2018.
Located at one of Iowa’s premier entertainment destinations where pickleball courts, games and social events draw players of all ages Big Blue not only celebrates the sport’s popularity but also highlights how pickleball culture continues to expand across communities.
