The artwork is the creation of acclaimed sculptor Samantha Ortega, who spent nearly six months designing and constructing the installation using sustainable materials such as recycled metals and natural composites. Ortega collaborated with engineers to ensure the sculpture could withstand outdoor conditions while maintaining its artistic integrity.
The project was commissioned as part of Nevada’s Desert Wildlife Art Initiative, which celebrates the state’s unique wildlife and promotes environmental awareness through public art. Officials confirmed that the sculpture surpassed the previous record for the largest tortoise sculpture, earning global recognition.
