The 110-year-old bronze bell at Tirumala Devaswom in Kochi, Kerala, stands over 1.8 meters (5 feet 11 inches) high and weighs more than 3 tonnes. Suspended from a massive wooden frame supported by four large granite pillars, each carved from a single rock, this bell is one of the largest in India. The temple, located in Mattancherry, is a significant social and religious hub for the migrated Konkanis.
The bell’s deep, resonant chimes are believed to have been audible from distant areas in earlier centuries, marking the temple’s presence and calling devotees to prayer.
The temple’s architecture features exquisite wood carvings depicting stories from the Hindu epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata, adding to its cultural and historical significance.
