Renowned sitar virtuoso Anoushka Shankar has once again made India proud on the global stage, earning two Grammy nominations this year and further cementing her position as one of the most celebrated Indian artists in contemporary world music.
The 11-time Grammy-nominated musician received nods in two prestigious categories — Best Global Music Album for “Chapter III: We Return to Light” and Best Global Music Performance for “Daybreak”, both featuring acclaimed artists Alam Khan and Sarathy Korwar.
These nominations mark another milestone in Anoushka’s illustrious career, showcasing her continued innovation and mastery in blending classical Indian sounds with modern global influences. Her latest works are being praised for their emotional depth, spiritual resonance, and seamless collaboration between traditional and contemporary elements.
With this achievement, Anoushka Shankar becomes the most Grammy-nominated Indian woman in history and the second-most nominated Indian musician overall, following legendary conductor Zubin Mehta.
Reacting to the nominations, Anoushka expressed gratitude and joy in a heartfelt post on social media:
“I’m deeply honored to be recognized again by the Recording Academy. Creating this music with Alam and Sarathy has been an incredibly meaningful journey — a return to light, both musically and spiritually.”
The sitarist, daughter of the late maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar, continues to carry forward her father’s global legacy while carving her own distinct identity as a modern artist bridging East and West.
Music critics describe Chapter III: We Return to Light as a soulful exploration of rebirth and renewal, while Daybreak is hailed for its transcendent interplay of rhythm, melody, and emotion.
The Grammy Awards 2025 are set to take place in Los Angeles, where global audiences eagerly await whether Anoushka will finally bring home her first Grammy win after years of trailblazing nominations.
