After more than five decades of dedication, British twins Ian and Stuart Paton have smashed the Guinness World Record for the heaviest pumpkin ever grown, with their colossal creation weighing 2,819 pounds and 4 ounces (1,278 kg).
The brothers, both 64, from Lymington, Hampshire, have been growing giant gourds since their teenage years. Their record-breaking pumpkin, affectionately named “Muggle,” was officially weighed at the Wargrave Nursery Giant Vegetable Weigh-Off near Reading, England.
In addition to its incredible weight, Muggle also set a new world record for largest pumpkin by circumference, measuring a massive 21 feet and 3.8 inches.
“We’ve been growing these for over 50 years, so moving giant pumpkins has become second nature,” said Ian Paton, explaining how the brothers used a custom-built lifting ring to transport their prized pumpkin safely to the competition.
The weighing and certification were conducted by Sebastian Suski, a Great Pumpkin Commonwealth assessor and Guinness World Records consultant.
“It was amazing to see this record come to the U.K.,” Suski said. “Ian and Stuart have always shared their growing expertise, so confirming their record was personally very special.”
The Paton twins’ achievement is being celebrated across the U.K.’s giant vegetable community, marking a proud milestone for British growers and proving that patience, precision, and a bit of pumpkin magic can yield truly extraordinary results.
