Gujarat Makes History with First Sounding Rocket Launch from Dholera

In a landmark achievement for India’s private space sector, the state of Gujarat has successfully launched its first sounding rocket from Dholera, marking a new era in regional space innovation.

The rocket, developed by an Ahmedabad-based startup, is a single-stage sub-orbital vehicle built using indigenous technology. Designed under the vision of India’s “Make in India” initiative, the rocket’s airframe was constructed at Omspace laboratory using advanced carbon fiber and composite materials.

The mission goes beyond a standard test launch. Along with the rocket, a mini-satellite was deployed to collect crucial weather-related data, which is expected to support future scientific research and atmospheric studies.

This milestone reflects the success of Gujarat’s SpaceTech Policy 2025–2030, positioning the state as an emerging hub for high-tech innovation beyond its traditional manufacturing strengths.

Experts believe this achievement will accelerate private participation in India’s space ecosystem and inspire more startups to contribute to cutting-edge aerospace technologies.
