World’s Largest Hand‑Blown Glass Bottle

The world’s largest hand‑blown glass bottle remains an extraordinary example of glass artistry and craftsmanship after setting a world record nearly three decades ago. The massive glass vessel was crafted by a team of skilled glass artists led by Steve Tobin during the South Jersey Glass Blast event at Wheaton Village in Millville on 26 September 1992.

Standing 2.3 metres (7 ft 8 in) tall and with a capacity of roughly 712 litres (157 gallons), the monumental bottle was created entirely by hand using traditional glass‑blowing techniques an achievement that pushed the limits of size and technique for hand‑blown glass objects.

The record‑setting glass sculpture celebrates both the art and heritage of glassmaking in the region. Millville, known for its historic glass industry, provided the perfect backdrop for this ambitious endeavour, which combined expert craftsmanship, teamwork and creativity.

Today, the giant bottle remains a standout exhibit at WheatonArts’ Museum of American Glass, where visitors can witness this stunning piece of glass history and learn about the art of glass blowing a tradition that continues to inspire artists and enthusiasts.
