World’s Highest Cinema in Leh-Ladakh at 11,500 ft

Cinema lovers in the Himalayas now have a sky-high reason to celebrate as PVR INOX has opened what is being hailed as the world’s highest cinema, a two-screen multiplex located at Solar Colony in Saboo along the Leh–Manali bypass road, at an altitude of approximately 11,500 feet above sea level. This landmark launch brings state-of-the-art movie entertainment to one of the most remote regions in the world.

The new multiplex, operating under PVR INOX’s franchise-owned, company-operated (FOCO) model, features 2K projection, Dolby 7.1 surround sound, and next-generation 3D technology, delivering an immersive cinematic experience even at high altitude.

To ensure premium audio quality in the thin mountain air, the cinema also included a customised audio system developed in collaboration with Pulz using German-made components, designed to maintain consistent performance despite the unique acoustic challenges of high-altitude environments. Officials from PVR INOX described the launch as a major milestone for both the company and the region, reflecting their commitment to expanding world-class entertainment infrastructure into new and emerging markets.

In addition to its cutting-edge technology, the new Leh cinema enhances the local entertainment landscape and represents a cultural milestone — bringing big-screen blockbusters and community experiences to audiences in Ladakh for the first time.
