The Bharath Arts Academy on Saturday created history by achieving a Guinness World Record for conducting the largest Kuchipudi dance lesson, with around 5,000 performers participating from across the world. The grand event took place at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Gachibowli, Telangana.
The record-setting performance was carried out to pre-recorded music, including Kedara Gaura Tillana, a 10-minute composition by Kala Ratna Pasumarthi Venkateswara Sarma. Organised in collaboration with the Telangana government, the event surpassed the academy’s own Guinness World Record set in 2023, which featured 4,000 participants.
Speaking about the achievement, organiser Vasudha Kadiri said, “Kuchipudi Kala Vaibhavam 2 is our second attempt to register in the Guinness World Records. We previously achieved this record on December 24, 2023, and this time we set a new benchmark for the largest Kuchipudi dance lesson.” She added that the event involved nine months of planning, with dancers around the world rehearsing for nearly two months.
Main organiser Lalitha Rao noted that the 12-year-old academy offers training in classical, western, and folk dances, along with music and musical instruments. Participants traveled from countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, the UAE, and Australia, as well as Indian cities such as Mumbai, Raipur, Bengaluru, and Chennai.
To ensure accurate documentation, QR codes were issued to performers and scanned by Guinness World Records adjudicators for verification. The event was attended by Telangana Sports Minister Vakiti Srihari and Sports Authority Chairman Shiva Sena Reddy, who encouraged the dancers and congratulated them on their achievement.
The record-breaking event celebrated the global reach of Kuchipudi and highlighted India’s rich cultural heritage on an international stage.
