India to Host World’s Largest Naval Convergence in 2026

India is set to solidify its status as a “Preferred Security Partner” in the Indo-Pacific by hosting a historic maritime mega-event in February 2026. This massive convergence, centered in the strategic port city of Visakhapatnam, will bring together three prestigious international forums: the International Fleet Review (IFR) 2026, Exercise MILAN 2026, and the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) Conclave of Chiefs. Scheduled to take place from February 15 to 25, 2026, the event has already seen confirmed participation from over 55 nations, including global superpowers the United States and Russia. This rare simultaneous presence of both Washington and Moscow underscores India’s unique position in global maritime diplomacy.

The 10-day event will serve as a high-octane display of naval cooperation and tactical prowess:
International Fleet Review (IFR): President Droupadi Murmu will review a massive anchored fleet off the iconic RK Beach on February 18. This is only the third time India has hosted an IFR.
Exercise MILAN 2026: Under the theme “Camaraderie, Cooperation, and Collaboration,” the sea phase (Feb 21-25) will feature complex drills, including anti-submarine warfare, air defense, and joint maneuvers.
IONS Conclave of Chiefs: Naval leaders from across the Indian Ocean Region will deliberate on maritime security, reinforcing the Prime Minister’s MAHASAGAR vision (Security and Growth for All in the Region).

In a move reflecting current regional tensions, India has notably excluded China, Pakistan, and Turkiye from the invitation list.
China: Omitted due to persistent border tensions and Beijing’s increasing “research vessel” activity in the Indian Ocean.
Pakistan: Continues to be excluded under India’s policy of keeping adversarial states out of defense engagements.
Turkiye: Dropped following its recent diplomatic support for Pakistan during ‘Operation Sindoor.’

A major highlight of the event will be the display of India’s growing indigenous naval strength. Attendees will witness flagship vessels such as the aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, Visakhapatnam-class destroyers, and Nilgiri-class stealth frigates. The International City Parade, expected to be attended by nearly 600,000 people, will feature air-power demonstrations and marching contingents from participating navies, turning the Vizag beachfront into a global stage for maritime diplomacy.
