Aardman Animations earns two new Guinness World Records decades after first triumph

British animation powerhouse Aardman Animations, the studio behind beloved classics like Wallace & Gromit and Chicken Run, has cemented its legendary status by earning two new Guinness World Records titles, exactly a quarter-century after securing its first.

The studio, founded in 1972 by Peter Lord and David Sproxton, has been a household name for decades, but it was their 2000 debut feature film, Chicken Run, that first put them in the record books as the highest-grossing stop-motion animated film of all time. That title, with a worldwide gross of $227,793,915, is a record the film still holds today.

Now, Aardman has added two new accolades to its collection, bringing its total number of records to five. The company has officially been certified for the most claymation feature films produced by a studio and the highest-grossing stop-motion film studio.

The first record recognizes the studio’s impressive body of work, with eight claymation feature films to its name, including Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and its recent Netflix release, Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl. The second record, certified on April 23, 2025, acknowledges the massive commercial success of Aardman’s six theatrical stop-motion films, which have collectively grossed an incredible $756,529,838 worldwide.

These new records are a testament to the enduring appeal of Aardman’s unique artistry. The company’s commitment to the intricate and painstaking process of stop-motion animation has created a unique, identifiable style that resonates with audiences of all ages, proving that in the fast-paced world of animation, a classic approach can still break new ground.
