The United States women’s swimming team delivered a sensational performance on Sunday, smashing their own world record to clinch the gold medal in the 4x100m medley relay at the World Aquatics Championships held in Singapore.
Clocking a blistering 3 minutes 49.34 seconds, the American quartet—Regan Smith (backstroke), Kate Douglass (breaststroke), Gretchen Walsh (butterfly), and Torri Huske (freestyle)—surpassed their previous world record of 3:49.63 set at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Americans were untouchable from the start, building a commanding lead early in the race. Torri Huske anchored the final leg with power and precision, sealing a historic victory as the team touched the wall almost three seconds ahead of the competition.
Australia took the silver in 3:52.67, while China secured the bronze with a time of 3:54.77.
“This team has unbelievable chemistry and talent,” said Regan Smith. “Breaking our own record on the world stage again just shows how much we push each other to be better.”
The win further cements the U.S. women’s dominance in medley relays, and the new world record sets a high bar heading into the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
