India has once again made its mark on the global academic stage, securing an impressive six medals — including three golds — at the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2025, held in Canberra, Australia.
The Indian team, comprising six of the country’s brightest young mathematical minds, delivered a stellar performance, bagging 3 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze — one of the nation’s best results in recent years.
The Olympiad, held from July 10 to 19, featured over 600 participants from more than 100 countries, making it the world’s most prestigious mathematics competition for pre-university students.
- Gold Medals: 3
- Silver Medals: 2
- Bronze Medal: 1
The gold medalists, who solved exceptionally challenging problems in algebra, combinatorics, geometry, and number theory, were praised for their creativity, precision, and problem-solving skills. Each medal represents years of rigorous training through the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) under the aegis of the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM).
Speaking after the results, India’s team leader Dr. Ravi Subramanian said, “This is a proud moment for the country. The students have shown that with the right mentorship and dedication, India can lead the world in intellectual excellence.”
India’s strong showing has placed it among the top-performing nations globally at IMO 2025, reaffirming its growing dominance in mathematics and science Olympiads.
This victory not only celebrates academic brilliance but also inspires future generations to pursue excellence in STEM — proving once again that mathematics is India’s language of success on the world stage.
