95-Year-Old Sabitri Majhi Donates Land for Village Stadium in Odisha to Support Future Athletes

In an extraordinary act of generosity and vision, 95-year-old Sabitri Majhi from Singihar village in Odisha has donated 5 acres of her own land to help build a mini stadium — a move that promises to transform the sporting future of her community.

Sabitri’s donation will facilitate the construction of a fully-equipped village stadium, giving local children and youth a space to train, play, and pursue their dreams in sports. The project is expected to feature a running track, football and volleyball grounds, and seating facilities — a first for the area.

“I may not live long enough to see them win medals, but I want to see them play,” said Sabitri with a smile, her eyes filled with hope for her village’s young talent.

Once a hub of rural tournaments and community gatherings, Singihar lacked formal sports infrastructure for decades. Sabitri, who has witnessed the village’s sporting spirit since independence, decided to preserve that legacy by enabling a space that future generations can call their own.

Local authorities and villagers alike have hailed her as an inspiration. Plans are underway to name the stadium after her, with many calling her “the pride of Singihar.”

“This is not just land,” said a local youth coach. “It’s a field of dreams — and Sabitri Ma is the reason those dreams will take flight.”

With one selfless act, Sabitri Majhi has turned her land into a legacy — planting the seeds of opportunity, pride, and progress in the heart of rural Odisha.
