In a heartwarming tribute to India’s diverse musical heritage, Ayaan Sajad, a 12-year-old Sufi singing prodigy from Kashmir, has been awarded the Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar 2025 in the Art and Culture category.
Known for his soulful renditions of timeless Sufi poetry, Ayaan has captivated audiences with his powerful voice and spiritual depth — qualities rare even in seasoned performers. At such a young age, he is preserving the mystic musical traditions of Kashmir and introducing them to new generations with authenticity and grace.
From the valleys of Kashmir to digital stages across the world, Ayaan’s performances have touched hearts beyond borders. Singing the works of great Sufi saints like Amir Khusrau, Rumi, and Bulleh Shah, he brings alive centuries-old messages of love, peace, and divine connection.
Trained under local mentors and supported by his musically inclined family, Ayaan blends traditional Kashmiri instrumentation with soulful vocals, often moving audiences to tears. His performances have been featured on national platforms and social media, earning him a loyal following.
The Pradhan Mantri Rashtriya Bal Puraskar, the highest civilian honour for children under 18, is awarded for excellence in fields like innovation, bravery, arts, culture, and sports. Ayaan’s dedication to preserving and popularizing Sufi music earned him this prestigious recognition in the Art & Culture category.

Despite his growing fame, Ayaan remains humble and grounded. He hopes to use his voice to promote peace and interfaith harmony, echoing the universal teachings of Sufi mysticism. He also dreams of establishing a music academy in Kashmir to mentor other young talents from the region.
