Shri C. S. Vaidyanathan Awarded Padma Shri for Distinguished Service in Public Affairs

Eminent legal luminary Shri C. S. Vaidyanathan has been conferred the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honors, for his outstanding contribution to the field of Public Affairs. Based in the National Capital Territory of Delhi, Vaidyanathan is widely respected for his decades-long service as a senior advocate and legal advisor on numerous landmark cases.

With a legal career spanning over five decades, Shri Vaidyanathan has represented the Government of India and several state governments in cases of national importance. Notably, he served as Additional Solicitor General of India in 1998 and has been involved in major constitutional, civil, and public interest litigations in the Supreme Court of India.

Among his most recognized contributions is his role as one of the key lawyers in the Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi case, where he represented the deity Ram Lalla Virajman. His arguments and legal strategy played a pivotal role in the historic verdict delivered by the Supreme Court.

Beyond the courtroom, Shri Vaidyanathan has actively contributed to public causes through legal education, pro bono work, and cultural outreach. He has served as a trustee and advisor for several educational and cultural institutions, fostering the spirit of public service and ethical leadership.
