Shri Lakshminarayana Subramaniam, internationally acclaimed violin virtuoso and composer, has been recognized for his extraordinary contribution to the field of art, bringing immense pride to Karnataka and India. Renowned for blending Carnatic classical music with Western symphonic traditions and jazz, Subramaniam’s work has earned him global admiration across genres and generations.
Hailing from a family of musicians, Subramaniam was trained under the guidance of his father, Professor V. Lakshminarayana. Over the years, he has elevated the Indian violin onto world stages, performing with legends like Yehudi Menuhin, Stéphane Grappelli, and Herbie Hancock. He is credited with bridging traditional Indian music and international orchestras through fusion compositions and symphonic works.
As the founder of the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival (LGMF) and the Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts (SaPa) in Bengaluru, he has nurtured young talent and brought global attention to Indian classical music. His contributions extend beyond performance—into education, composition, and cultural diplomacy.
In recognition of his achievements, he has been honored with multiple prestigious awards including the Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and most recently, the Padma Vibhushan—making him the first violinist to receive India’s second-highest civilian honour.
