Gloucester Gardener Smashes World Record with Giant Celeriac

Self-described “enthusiastic amateur” gardener Graham Barratt has officially broken the Guinness World Record for the heaviest celeriac, surpassing the previous title by an impressive 10lbs (4.5kg).

Barratt’s 13lb (5.9kg) monster celeriac was part of a standout collection he showcased at the Malvern Autumn Show, including a 29lb (13kg) cucumber, drawing admiration and astonishment from fellow growers and visitors alike.

Confirmation of his new record came on Thursday, solidifying Barratt’s place in the world of giant vegetable growing.

Speaking to BBC Radio Gloucestershire, Barratt shared his humble perspective: “It’s either weight or length for giant veg, but it’s not beauty. Some of them are quite ugly.”

Despite their looks, Barratt’s record-breaking produce has earned him national acclaim and reaffirmed that passion, patience, and a green thumb can yield truly extraordinary results.
