In a remarkable feat that has brought pride to Himachal Pradesh and the entire nation, 17-year-old Kritika Sharma, hailing from the remote village of Gattadhar in Sangrah subdivision of Sirmaur district, has successfully scaled the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest.
On May 18, Kritika unfurled the Tricolour, the NCC flag, and her college’s insignia—Sri Guru Gobind Singh Government College, Paonta Sahib—at the summit, overcoming extreme weather and life-threatening conditions to make history. She has now become the youngest Indian woman NCC cadet to achieve this feat and the first and youngest from Himachal Pradesh to reach the top of the world.
Her inclusion in this elite mountaineering expedition came after a series of rigorous written tests, interviews, and strenuous physical trials. Kritika, the youngest among the team that included 10 NCC cadets, four officers, two Junior Commissioned Officers, one Girl Cadet Instructor, and 10 Non-Commissioned Officers, showcased her determination and resilience.
The expedition, flagged off by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from New Delhi on April 3, stands as a shining example of courage, commitment, and the spirit of adventure that the National Cadet Corps fosters in India’s youth.
Kritika’s achievement is not only a personal triumph but also an inspiration to countless young women across the country who dare to dream and defy the odds.
