In an extraordinary demonstration of memory and cognitive ability, Sibi Shakthivel, a 3-year-old from Vellore, Tamil Nadu, has been officially titled an IBR Achiever by the India Book of Records. Sibi set the record by identifying and recalling the names of shapes, colours, vehicles, and other items across 100 flashcards in just 3 minutes at the age of 3 years and 7 months, as confirmed on March 20, 2025.
Born on July 30, 2021, Sibi’s remarkable memory and cognitive development have amazed his family and experts alike. His parents first noticed his exceptional ability to recognize and name a wide variety of objects when he was just a toddler. They nurtured his curiosity by engaging him in interactive learning activities, such as flashcards, which contributed to his rapid development.
“We never expected that he would set a record at such a young age,” said Vijay Shakthivel, Sibi’s father. “He loves playing with flashcards, and we could see how quickly he picked up names of different shapes, colours, and objects.”
The record was set during an official event, where Sibi accurately identified all 100 flashcards, displaying both speed and accuracy in his responses. The flashcards covered a range of categories, including common shapes like squares, circles, and triangles, colours such as red, blue, and yellow, as well as vehicles, animals, and everyday items. Experts confirmed the record, noting Sibi’s focus and impressive memory.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar, a child development specialist, praised Sibi’s achievement. “It’s not just about memorizing names; it’s about being able to recall them quickly and accurately. Sibi’s ability to do so at such a young age is a clear indication of his advanced cognitive abilities.”
Sibi’s parents have fostered a learning environment that emphasizes fun and exploration, which has played a significant role in his early development. “We’ve always tried to make learning playful for him. He enjoys looking at flashcards and asking questions about the world around him,” said Anjali Shakthivel, Sibi’s mother.
As an IBR Achiever, Sibi joins a select group of young prodigies who have demonstrated exceptional talents at an early age. His achievement highlights the importance of early childhood education and the positive impact of interactive learning activities in developing a child’s potential.
Looking ahead, Sibi’s family is excited to continue supporting his curiosity and learning journey. “He is full of energy and always eager to learn new things. We are excited to see where his love for learning takes him next,” said his father.
Sibi Shakthivel’s incredible achievement serves as an inspiring example of how nurturing a child’s natural curiosity can unlock limitless possibilities for their future.
