Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport, New Delhi, officially opened its doors, becoming India’s and South Asia’s largest aviation hub. With a design capacity to handle over 40 million (4 crore) passengers annually, it marked a new era in India’s aviation infrastructure.
Spanning over 500,000 square meters, T3 was built to international standards, featuring world-class facilities, 168 check-in counters, 78 aerobridges, and state-of-the-art baggage handling systems. The terminal also became a symbol of India’s rising status in global air travel, offering seamless connectivity for both domestic and international passengers.
By 2018–19, the airport had far exceeded its original projections, handling an impressive 69.23 million (6.923 crore) passengers, underscoring the rapid growth in India’s civil aviation sector. This made IGI one of the busiest airports in the world, reflecting the increasing demand for both business and leisure travel in and out of the country.
Terminal 3 remains a landmark achievement in modern Indian infrastructure and continues to play a central role in positioning New Delhi as a global air traffic hub.
