Mahakumbh 2025: 15K Sanitation Workers Eye World Record, Results Awaited

During the ongoing Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, approximately 15,000 sanitation workers participated in a synchronized cleanliness drive across four zones, aiming to set a new Guinness World Record for the largest mass sweeping event. This initiative surpasses the previous record set in 2019, where 10,000 workers were involved.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Prayagraj Mayor Ganesh Kesarwani, Special Executive Officer Akanksha Rana, and a supervisory team from the Guinness Book of World Records. Chief observer and judge Rishi Nath, who arrived from London, oversaw the attempt. To ensure accurate counting, each worker wore a wristband with a unique QR code, scanned upon entry to log participation.

Uttar Pradesh Urban Development and Energy Minister A.K. Sharma praised the sanitation workers, referring to them as the “true heroes” of the Maha Kumbh for their relentless efforts in maintaining cleanliness throughout the event. The final validation report from Guinness World Records is expected to be released on February 27, 2025.
