Nagpur’s Jyoti Amge, officially recognised by the Guinness World Records as the world’s shortest woman at just 62.8 cm (24.7 inches) and weighing 5 kg, has turned what could have been a limitation into a life of global recognition and inspiration.
Born in 1993 with a rare form of pituitary dwarfism, Jyoti grew up in modest circumstances. Despite early challenges—including fragile bones and the need for constant assistance—her family embraced her uniqueness, naming their home “Jyoti House” in her honour.
Her journey from being a local curiosity to an international figure took a major leap in 2014 when she starred as “Ma Petite” in the popular American TV series American Horror Story: Freak Show. Since then, she has travelled across continents, meeting dignitaries, fellow record-holders, and fans worldwide.
Beyond her Hollywood fame, Jyoti remains active in public life, attending events, interacting with admirers, and advocating for the dignity of individuals with dwarfism. While she still faces daily challenges—from public stares to physical limitations—her determination and wit continue to inspire millions.
“This is just the beginning,” says her father, who proudly notes that Jyoti has made Nagpur famous around the world. Her family remains her strongest support system, ensuring she has every opportunity to live life to the fullest.
From red carpets to record books, Jyoti’s story is one of resilience, family strength, and turning adversity into opportunity.
