In a remarkable Independence Day celebration, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has entered the Guinness World Records for creating the largest online photo album of people holding a national flag, featuring 152,559 photos. The achievement was officially certified by Rishi Nath, Guinness World Records’ adjudicator, during a ceremony held at the SPPU campus on August 15.
The record-setting initiative coincided with India’s 75th Independence Day, symbolising the participation of citizens across the country in a patriotic tribute. At the event, the Guinness adjudicator formally handed over the certificate to SPPU officials, acknowledging the university’s dedication and organizational excellence.
Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari, present at the event, lauded the students’ effort, stating, “The world record created by the students has showered nectar on this diamond jubilee year of our independence. Inspiration among the youth is the power of a nation. Because of the youth, India will lead the world.”
Other dignitaries in attendance included State Technical and Higher Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, Pune MP Girish Bapat, SPPU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Karbhari Kale, Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Sonawane, Registrar Prafulla Pawar, and Organising Committee Chairman Rajesh Pande.
MP Girish Bapat remarked, “Pune has stood out by doing something unique. SPPU has consistently contributed during all hardships, whether Covid, floods, or academic achievements. Through the leadership of youngsters, India gains the strength to lead the world.”
The record highlights SPPU’s commitment to fostering civic engagement and patriotic spirit among its students, marking a historic achievement in the university’s illustrious journey.
