World’s largest airport-based solar farm

world’s largest airport-based solar farm at Indira Gandhi International Airport, marking a major milestone in sustainable aviation and renewable energy. Spanning over 120 acres and generating a staggering 50 megawatts of electricity, the solar farm is designed to power the airport’s operations while significantly reducing its carbon footprint.

The project was developed in collaboration with top renewable energy engineers and environmental consultants, combining cutting-edge solar panel technology with smart energy management systems. The panels are strategically positioned across airport land, including unused runway-adjacent areas, to maximize sunlight exposure without interfering with airport operations.

Officials from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) emphasized that this solar farm positions Delhi airport as a global leader in sustainable aviation infrastructure. “Our goal is to make airports more energy-efficient and environmentally responsible,” said AAI Chairman Rajiv Nair at the inauguration. “This solar farm demonstrates India’s commitment to renewable energy and innovation in large-scale infrastructure projects.”

The solar installation is expected to offset thousands of tons of carbon dioxide annually, equivalent to planting millions of trees, while also reducing operational energy costs for the airport. Travelers can now witness a landmark that not only represents engineering and environmental achievement but also serves as a model for airports worldwide.
