A final‑year Computer Science Engineering student from the Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) has made history by securing a record‑breaking annual package of ₹2.5 crore from Optiver, a Netherlands‑based global trading firm the highest placement offer ever recorded in the institute’s history since its founding in 2008.
The standout achiever, Edward Nathan Varghese, 21, will join Optiver’s Netherlands office as a software engineer in July 2026 after converting his two‑month summer internship into a full‑time pre‑placement offer (PPO) an exceptional success in a competitive global job market.
This landmark package significantly eclipses the previous highest offer of around ₹1 crore and highlights the global demand for elite tech talent coming out of Indian institutes. The 2025–26 placement season has also been strong overall for IITH, with the average package jumping by nearly 75 %, rising from ₹20.8 lakh in 2024 to ₹36.2 lakh this year, and 24 international offers secured during Phase 1 of the campus drive.
Institute officials emphasised that while headline figures make headlines, the focus remains on quality opportunities for all students and sustained career growth across disciplines. Edward’s achievement not only sets a new benchmark for IITH placements but also reinforces the institute’s rising stature on the global recruitment stage amid evolving industry demands.
