Himachal Pradesh has made a notable entry in the Guinness World Records with a spectacular display of traditional Himachali shawls at the ongoing HIM MSME Fest 2026 held on the iconic Ridge in Shimla. Organised by the Department of Industries, the landmark event saw 4,023 handmade shawls crafted by artisans from all 12 districts of the state exhibited together the largest display of its kind ever verified by Guinness officials.
The record-breaking showcase brought global recognition to Himachal’s rich handloom craftsmanship and heritage, highlighting centuries-old weaving traditions that are integral to local culture and rural livelihoods. The shawls each painstakingly hand-woven using techniques passed down through generations were brought to Shimla by skilled artisans and women’s self-help groups, underscoring the collective effort of the weaver community.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu received the official Guinness World Records certificate on behalf of the state, marking a proud moment for Himachal Pradesh’s traditional textile sector. The event not only celebrated the aesthetic diversity of Himachali shawls which originate in regions such as Kullu, Kinnaur, Chamba, Kangra, and Sirmaur but also served to support local MSMEs and promote handcrafted products on a national and international stage.
The achievement is expected to boost market opportunities for artisans, attract interest from global buyers attending the fest, and shine a spotlight on sustainable, culturally rooted craftsmanship that continues to thrive in the hills of Himachal Pradesh. Through this global milestone, Himachali shawls emblematic of intricate hand-weaving skills and regional identity have woven their way into world history, bringing pride to India’s traditional art and craft heritage.
