The city of Bellflower has secured a unique distinction on the world stage, officially setting the record for the World’s Largest Book Sculpture. This massive, public artwork is the centerpiece of the Library Garden, located directly across the street from the Clifton M. Brakensiek Library.
The garden’s most prominent feature is a dynamic stack of oversized books, one of which is splayed wide open to reveal text. The entire installation is celebrated not just as a monumental piece of art, but as a symbolic gesture honoring literature, knowledge, and community.
The sculpture, which was unveiled when the Library Garden had its grand opening on March 9, 2006, immediately became a local landmark. Key features of the garden surrounding the record-setting sculpture include:
The open book features a passage titled “Enchanted Garden,” with one page inviting visitors to “Let your imagination soar.” Another recognizable book in the stack is labeled Gullivers Travels.
The concrete areas of the garden are etched with famous quotes from literary giants and historical figures such as William Shakespeare, Socrates, and President John F. Kennedy.
The garden also includes a decorative clock, a large statue of an apple, and a small pool of water topped by a statue of books and a reading lamp.
The establishment of this record by the World Record Academy firmly places Bellflower on the map as a destination celebrating the profound impact of literature and learning on culture.
