The magic of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker is getting a thrilling, one-wheeled upgrade this holiday season, as the Lindsay Children’s Nutcracker announces a special cameo by a Guinness World Record holder: Linda Jarrett, affectionately known as the “Unicycle Grandma.”
Jarrett, recently certified as the world’s oldest female unicyclist after successfully riding a towering six-foot unicycle at the age of 66 years and 234 days, will trade her record-setting gear for the whimsical world of ballet.
The former circus performer and veteran choreographer is set to glide across the stage of the Lindsay Community Theater in a unique, non-traditional role.
The Cameo: Look for Jarrett’s appearance during the festive and energetic “Clowns” dance in the second act, bringing an unexpected element of circus arts to the classic holiday show.
A Historic Prop: The very six-foot unicycle Jarrett rode to earn her Guinness World Record is also making a special appearance before it is permanently retired to the Guinness Museum in London after the show closes.
Local Talent: Jarrett, who has served as a choreographer for the production, is joining a cast of over 50 performers, ranging in age from 5 to 16, drawn from Lindsay and surrounding communities.
“The fusion of the elegant world of ballet with the fun and daring of circus arts is something special,” said Director Jim Kliegl. “Linda’s unicycle ride adds a truly unique, memorable moment of holiday whimsy that audiences won’t expect.”
The Seventh Annual Lindsay Children’s Nutcracker runs for four performances this December. Jarrett’s involvement not only celebrates a new world record but also highlights the commitment of the local community theater to creative and inclusive storytelling.
